How long have you been involved in farm marketing and/or agri-tourism?
8 years.
What crops, attractions, services, or other offerings do you sell to consumers visiting your location?
Apples, nectarines, cherries, cider, bakery, lunches, winery, gift shop, gift baskets and boxes, wagon rides, school tours.
What is the most satisfying thing about being in the farm marketing and agri-tourism business?
Meeting our customers. We know many of our customers by name. We meet many people from out of town and they tell us great stories about growing up on or near farms, or how they grew up living near or visiting Robinettes' and what great memories they had as kids. Now they come with their kids or grandchildren.
Why do you think others should get involved with the new Michigan Farm Marketing & Agri-Tourism Association?
I feel all involved in farm marketing should be involved in this organization because as individuals we can only do so much, but as a group we can promote the whole farm experience. When a customer has a good experience at on farm market they keep coming back. When are traveling out of town or on vacation they can start visiting other farm markets to see what they have to offer that is unique or different from the ones near them. They will then come back and tell you what they saw and share with others "if you are in this area, then go to..." This is a win-win situation for all markets because we are standing together and saying we have great things to offer in Michigan. Check us out and know where your food is coming from!
Any other things you would want people to know about you, your operation or your involvement in this organization?
Working for Robinette's has been a learning experience for me. My work has included working in finance, learning to do about everything. Managing large numbers of employees has been challenging, but I've enjoyed meeting other farm market operators and seeing what they have to offer. By just being involved in this organization so far, I've met some excellent people who all feel that Michigan is a great state and that we have some of the best farm markets. Now let's take the next step and get the word out, and promote not just in the fall, but year 'round.
